We are delighted to announce that Tom Kirk, currently of Ely Place Chambers, has accepted an invitation to join Old Square Chambers. Tom is a specialist employment practitioner, with a particular interest in discrimination and whistleblowing claims, and has 12 years’ experience of employment litigation.
Tom brings with him a wealth of experience, adding further strength to the profile of our recognised Employment group. He has a particular expertise in disability discrimination and is frequently instructed by both Claimants and Respondents in such claims. As Junior Counsel to the Crown (Attorney General’s B Panel), Tom is regularly instructed by a range of government departments and deals with politically sensitive or high-profile discrimination and whistleblowing cases and those with wider implications across the public sector..
Tom also accepts instructions in inquests work. He frequently represents a range of interested persons including government departments, NHS Trusts, families and the police. He has particular experience acting in inquests in which Article 2 ECHR is engaged and those involving deaths in custody.
Ranked in the Legal 500 as a Leading Junior in Employment Law, he is recognised as a “an academically terrific opponent, whose advocacy is both measured and incisive (Legal 500, London Bar, 2020)”.
Tom will be practising from Old Square Chambers from June 2020.
