Emily Raynor (née Slocombe)

Emily has a busy clinical negligence and personal injury practice, dealing with claims at the fast-track and multi-track level, including acting in claims pleaded in excess of £1,000,000.

Emily has acted in a variety of clinical negligence cases encompassing private and public sectors, inpatient and outpatient care, delayed diagnoses and inadequate or substandard care. Emily has experience at all stages at the claim, including interlocutory applications, CCMCs, JSMs, mediation and trial.

Emily recently attended a clinical negligence trial where following receipt of her skeleton argument, liability was admitted by the Defendant, so the trial proceeded on quantum only.

In Emily’s personal injury practice, she regularly acts in claims involving road traffic accidents, occupier’s liability, employer’s liability, public liability, and industrial disease. Emily has accepted instructions for all stages of proceedings.

Emily has experience dealing with complex medical evidence, and she has been complimented on how handles clients in complex and sensitive matters.

Emily frequently advises on liability and quantum as well as drafting pleadings and schedules of loss.

Emily accepts instructions at all stages of Court of Protection health & welfare, and property & financial affairs proceedings. Emily is instructed by the Official Solicitor, local authorities, CCG’s, and individuals in interim and contested final hearings, roundtable meetings and advocates meetings.

Emily has particular experience in applications made under section 21A Mental Capacity Act 2023, concerning capacity and best interests.

Emily’s experience and interest in clinical negligence overlaps with her engagement with Court of Protection work, but Emily also enjoys the fast-developing nature of the Court of Protection.

Emily’s inquest work has a natural overlap with her personal injury and clinical negligence practice, providing continuity of counsel and assisting in getting answers to questions around the death, preventing similar deaths. She primarily represents bereaved families in cases concerning failures by state bodies, (including the NHS), and private companies, both before coroners and juries, however, she does also have experience acting for other interested persons, including NHS Trusts.

Emily has particular experience in cases concerning mental health care (including suicides and where the individual has EUPD), and the deaths of babies or very young children and is comfortable making Article 2 submissions.

Emily has recently acted for a family in a two-week jury inquest concerning a death of a young lady whilst on a mental health unit. In that case the jury found that there were a number of failings by the NHS Trust which were contributory to the young lady’s death, and a preventing future death report was issued.

Emily also advises on the bringing of civil claims in negligence following inquests.
