Old Square Chambers is deeply saddened to announce the death of our retired member, Mary O’Rourke KC, in her home city of Belfast.
Mary was a formidable advocate who devoted her life to fearlessly representing her clients in professional discipline, clinical negligence, employment law and sports law.
Her reputation in the field of professional discipline was unsurpassed and throughout her 40 year career she appeared in many of the most prominent cases in the field, as well as winning numerous awards, including Professional Discipline Silk of the Year.
Speaking on behalf of Chambers, Head of Chambers Oliver Segal KC, Nadia Motraghi KC and Nicola Newbegin said:
“Mary was not only an exceptional barrister, she was a wonderfully supportive champion of junior members of chambers over many years.
Many in Chambers owe a huge amount to Mary, having benefited from her guidance and encouragement, as well as her friendship.
Our thoughts are with Mary’s family and many friends at this very difficult time”.
