International Women’s Day 2024: Old Square Chambers and the Girls Human Rights Hub

News

To commemorate International Women’s Day 2024, Old Square Chambers is celebrating the work and mission of the Girls Human Rights Hub (GHRH) and the success of the inaugural Girls Human Rights Festival 2024, for which Old Square Chambers was proud to act as a Legacy Sponsor alongside law firms Hogan Lovells and Fieldfisher.

Founded by Sultana Tafadar KC and her 11 year old daughter, the GHRH’s aim is to provide a platform where everyone can learn about girls human rights and where girls can learn to use advocacy, leadership, and litigation to become strong advocates for their own rights, as well as the rights of their peers.

At the core of the mission of GHRH is the advancement of gender equity and the eradication of gender-based violence and a belief that every girl is entitled to a life free from oppression, discrimination, and violence.

For the inaugural five-day girl human rights festival in London, hundreds of girls, young women and young men attended thought provoking, educational and empowering events aimed at amplifying the voices of girls everywhere.

Old Square Chambers was delighted to host the full day Advocacy Bootcamp.

Delegates were able to join our formidable King’s Counsel: Ijeoma Omambala KC,  Rebecca Tuck KC, Eleena Misra KC and Nadia Motraghi KC for a plenary session on excellence in advocacy moderated by Zaakira Allana, Dispute Resolution Director from Fieldfisher as well as participating in workshops on menstrual equity, climate change and FGM which culminated in delegates presenting their own submissions on these important issues to their peers and barristers.

Delegates also had the unique opportunity to attend the opening ceremony at the Supreme Court hosted by Lady Ingrid Simler JSC, a closing ceremony at the House of Lords hosted by Lord John Hendy KC and full day programmes of inspiring events at Fieldfisher and Hogan Lovells with speakers including Baroness Brenda Hale, Baroness Shami Chakrabarti to name but a few of the range of inspiring lawyers, campaigners, academics, journalists and thought leaders involved.

Old Square Chambers is delighted to be associated with the GHRH and look forward to collaborating more in the near future. For more information about GHRH please see here.
