In Mr Halstead v J D Wetherspoons (Case no: 1400644/2024), the ET found that the Respondent failed to make reasonable adjustments in relation to the Claimant, who has autism. Following a minor breach of the employee discount policy, for which the Claimant apologised once he was made aware, the Respondent decided to pursue a formal disciplinary investigation for gross misconduct.
The Respondent was ordered to pay the Claimant £25,412 in relation to the successful complaint of failure to make reasonable adjustments.
The case was widely reported on in the national media, including in The Independent, The Telegraph, and the Daily Mail.
