Poppy Russell died a few hours after her birth on 11 April 2021 at Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.
In his determination of the inquest, which investigated the circumstances of Poppy’s death, senior coroner John Ellery found that with effective monitoring of Poppy’s fetal heart rate, there would have been signs, for over an hour, that Poppy was suffering. He concluded, “these signals should have been picked up and in the situation which unfolded there was a failure to do so leading to Poppy’s preventable death”.
Old Square’s Sophie Beesley, instructed by Laura Weir at Lanyon Bowdler, represented Mr and Mrs Russell.
