Maryam joined Chambers as a Probationary Tenant in October 2024 and is interested in all areas of employment and personal injury law.
During pupillage, Maryam gained experience of a wide range of employment work. Under her first supervisor she drafted pleadings, skeleton arguments and opinions on matters concerning whistleblowing, discrimination and claims under the Working Time Regulations. Under her second supervisor she built on her previous experience in the context of government employment work and gained further exposure to Employment Tribunal preliminary and substantive hearings. Â Finally, under her last two supervisors she assisted in High Court employment disputes regarding restrictive covenants, misuse of confidential information and breach of fiduciary duties. Throughout pupillage, Maryam assisted with a wide range of matters, including researching for cases in the Supreme Court and the Employment Appeal Tribunal as well as assisting with investigations, disciplinary and regulatory work.
Before pupillage, Maryam was a Lincoln’s Inn Sir Thomas More Scholar and Aziz Foundation Scholar. Her experience specialised in Employment and Equalities Law. She assisted in the drafting of written submissions for the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief as well as researching for the Equality Act Review. She also specialised in Public Law, being selected to partake in a stakeholder consultation group for the Ministry of Justice on the Civil Legal Aid Review as well as being a Column contributor for Legal Action Magazine and serving as co-chair of Young Legal Aid Lawyers.
